Eckert-Casha is a partner at Casha & Casha, LLC.  Her practice concentrates on wills, trusts (including self-settled and third-party special needs trusts),  and estate planning and administration.  Debra is passionate about advocating  for the elderly and children with special needs.  She enhances their lives by working with family members and guardians to plan for their future.

 Under the auspices of the Administrative Office of the Courts, she has served on the New Jersey Special Civil Part Practice Rulemaking Committee. She is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Morris County Bar Association. As a member of the Wills and Estates Committee she, together with other noted estate attorneys and Surrogate John Pecoraro, produced Demystifying Wills and Estates, a cable television program. She has appeared extensively on radio and television. She is the co-author of Citizen Lobbying- A Guide to Action in the Legislative Process.

Debra is admitted to practice in New Jersey, the Federal District Courts of New Jersey and the United States Supreme Court. She is a former professor at Montclair State University and the College of Saint Elizabeth, where she was the Director of the Center for Independent Living for the Aged and Handicapped. Her expertise led to her appointment as one of thirteen members of the New Jersey State Board of Education, which is responsible for promulgating agency rules and regulations requisite to effect compliance. Debra was elected Vice President and was the Chairperson of the Legal Committee. Her knowledge of the issues led to service on study groups for the National Association of State Boards of Education.

Debra’s legal expertise, attention to detail and advocacy has been sought by numerous State Boards and agencies, including the Board of Psychological Examiners and the Economic Development Authority. As a distinguished leader in law, education and the community, Debra has been the recipient of numerous awards including: 2009 AAFCS Leader Award; ASAH 2005 Humanitarian of the Year for serving the special education community; Vincentian Charitable Service Award, 2004; 2002 Montville UNICO Person of the Year; Montville Township Hall of Fame, 2002; Lakeland Hills Family YMCA Citizen of the Year, 2000 and Montville Township Citizen of the Year, 1999. She was appointed as one of eighteen members to the New Jersey Governor’s Consortium on Consumer Education and selected as one of nineteen women for the Christine Todd Whitman Excellence in Public Service Series.

Debra has been invited to share her expertise in the international arena on the continent of Africa and more recently in Turkey.

She earned her Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University School of Law, and a Master of Arts in Consumer Economics from Montclair State University, from which she also obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. She presently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Center for Civic and Law Related Education, the County Committee in Kinnelon, the Advisory Board for Lakeland Bank and the Executive Board for Pathways.
